It’s Christmas in Chattanooga! This is hands down my favorite time of the year. And it’s not just the holiday parties, time spent with friends and family, or the festive hustle and bustle. I live for the holiday decor! I can’t help it – it’s just my nature to be a little extra during Christmas. Here are a few ways I like to take decorating for the holidays to the next level, and holiday decor tips for you to use.
Multiple Trees, Multiple Delights
Who says you’re limited to just one Christmas tree? Sprinkle the magic throughout your home with multiple trees. Place a charming one in the bedroom for a cozy, intimate feel. My bedroom Christmas tree is my favorite one in our home – waking up to the twinkling lights is the best way to start the day.
I only meant to do a LEETLE BITTY TREE for my bedroom, but saw this one on sale and pounced, and then when I got it home realized it was waaay too tall for the room and had to leave an entire section out of it. I think this is called “pivoting” 🤪.
Turns out that the tree I saw on display only had three of the sections assembled also, so that is why I thought it was shorter. So now a section sits alone in the attic unused every Christmas, but oh well. (I wish I had a video of my engineer husband and I arguing about how it will/won’t work in the room. 😂)
I recommend choosing a theme for each tree to add a personalized touch – I went with deep blue decor for my bedroom Christmas tree. It perfectly complements my custom draperies and bedding – designed and made by Chattanooga Window Treatments, of course. Whether it’s a whimsical tree in the kids’ playroom or a refined, gold-accented tree in the living room, the possibilities are endless.
A Holiday Tablescape to Remember
Elevate your holiday gatherings with a show-stopping tablescape. Incorporate festive table runners, elegant place settings, and candlelight to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Don’t forget to add seasonal greenery and ornaments as the finishing touches. Your dining space will become a visual feast that complements the delicious spread. One of my favorite tricks is to take Christmas baubles and place them in a pretty bowl or tall glass container on the table. And when I can’t find the perfect table runner, I’ll utilize a favorite tablecloth and fold it to the dimensions needed.
Did you notice the silver and gold leaves?
I love the look of gilded leaves, and I made my own from fallen leaves in my yard!
Front Porch Extravaganza
I go all out with front porch decor to spread the holiday spirit to passersby. A symphony of twinkling lights, festive wreaths, and classic garlands, pretty ornaments. You can create a cozy seating area with plush pillows and warm blankets for those chilly nights. Your front porch will become a welcoming haven that beckons friends and family to share in the merriment. I only wish I could get away with leaving all the decor up all year!
Spreading Cheer in Your Neighborhood
Extend the holiday joy beyond your doorstep by coordinating with neighbors for a neighborhood-wide decor theme. Every year, I always hang wreaths through our neighborhood, on street posts and our neighborhood’s entrances. It’s a delightful way to foster community spirit and make your street a magical destination during the season.
Larger-Than-Life Wreath
Like I said – I’m a little extra during the holidays! I have a huge wreath that we always hang on the exterior of our home. It’s a bit of a pain to install, but a couple of years ago I didn’t hang it and the neighbors complained, so now it has to go up every year without fail to keep the neighbors happy. In my book, there’s no place for minimalism in Christmas decor. This sets the tone for a season filled with grandeur and joy.
The Sweet Finale: Pumpkin Cheesecake and Family Fun
Yes, I love decorating for the holidays – but sharing my festive home with family and friends is really what takes the cake. Or in this case, the cheesecake! After a long day of holiday decorating last weekend, I celebrated by baking a pumpkin cheesecake with my daughter. It was a delightful way to end a day of transforming my home into a holiday haven.
Remember, the holidays are a time to celebrate, connect, and revel in the joy of the season. Whether you’re creating a festive ambiance indoors or spreading cheer throughout the neighborhood, let your holiday decor reflect the warmth and happiness that define this magical time of year. Happy decorating and Merry Christmas!
